Positive Behaviour for Learning

Parramatta High School is a national leader in Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL)

The PBL program was fully implemented at the school in 2006.

The program involves the following process:

  • using data to identify areas of concern across the school
  • Making clear, simple procedures for students to follow in different settings of the school
  • teaching these procedures and expected behaviours explicitly to students in regular lessons
  • revising these lessons regularly
  • supporting teachers with professional learning on implementation of PBL procedures
  • rewarding good behaviourand having clear consequences for poor behaviour
  • 80% of students should respond to "universals" – the procedures and expectations that we have established for the classroom and other targeted areas around the school
  • the next 15% of students will require interventions as a group to further manage their behaviour.
